Yesterday I started College ![]()
I have to get a couple of trains there because its in Southend, and I live about 40 minutes away. Thats a bit of a pain but it cant be helped really. I was nervous as hell when I first went in, seeing as I didn't know a single person and I was paranoid I was going to get lost or end up in the completely wrong place. (not hard really seeing as the college is huge, pictures at the end) I took a one year course in General Media, which covers magazines and publishing, film, TV and audio, photography and radio. That will give me a BTEC Diploma in Media. I then hope to move onto a 2 year course in one of the subjects we study. The course is counted as full time but its only 3 days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, which means I get long weekends ![]()
After feeling very sophisticated and swiping my snazzy student id card at the barriers to get in, I was told where I needed to go and found it relatively easily as it was right near the front. There was a big bunch of us and we all had our names called out in groups, by different teachers who we later learnt were our tutors. My tutors lovely, but its dead strange calling teachers by their first names. She told me off for saying ‘miss’!
Yesterday was a bit boring as everyone was a bit quiet and no one knew each other and we basically didn't do anything other than fill in forms ect. However, today was really really fun ![]()
We first watched a film in the college cinema about all the things the course offers us and all that shizz. Then went back to our classrooms, had to get into groups, and then make someone in our group an outfit made from just newspaper and cellotape. That was fuuuuuun. My group won a prize for it aswell! After that my group stuck together and went for lunch. We basically stayed together the whole day and its cool to have a group of people to hang with. When we were back from lunch, out tutor took us bowling so we could all ‘bond in a social environment’. I dont understand why because the college has 6000 students, so its pretty social there already! It was fun nonetheless and everyone had a laugh so her whole ‘bonding’ worked. I then got the train home later with the two girls from my group. Theyre both lovely (:

And this is the college; ‘South East Essex College’
‘the mushrooms’. They have tables on and are attached to the college restaurant on the second floor, which is run by business students and students taking food and catering courses. Mostly all the people who dont go to the shops on the high street during thier lunch go there.

The big red thing is ‘the pod’. It's the college cinema/theatre and is used by media, drama and dance students when they present work. Presentations also take place in there because it seats about 250 people I think.

Theres 7 floors altogether and also the ground floor isn't grey anymore, its green with a tennis court painted on the floor. These are just old pictures.
Conclusion: Southend is good.
